I started with pastel in 1996, after many years of training myself to draw realistic portraits with pencils. When I was ready to make a transition from pencils to a colored medium, I chose pastel. I was inspired by the portrait works of artists’ at the Central Market in Kuala Lumpur, they use pastel as their primary medium.
One thing I love about pastel is that it’s quick to start any painting with and you get to see the end result almost immediately. But since I stopped portraiture back in 2008, I only produced a few pastel paintings these past 10 years. However, earlier this year, I made it a point to do some paintings with pastel.
The best part, I found a solution to work with my favorite medium without the limitations of using an easel!
